All expected participants arrived at the start this morning. Mr Veltman, Municipal councilor of the city Sloten performed the start of the second day of the Mistral SUP 11-City Tour. The heat is on! A genuine competition is developing in this tour where both solo competition and team competition make a lively arena on the Frisian lakes and canals. 7 teams, 14 solo and 13 tour sports men and women are out there to give their best. The official break half way on the 2nd day was in the City of Stavoren. Xavie and Bart arrived after 2 hours and 47 minutes, followed by Erwin Janssen 5 minutes later. A lot of joy is also experienced at the SUP clinic locations. Today approximately 50 children took the change to become familiar with the new sport. It seems the ice-skating-loving Frisians have a warm connection with the Stand UP Paddle sport; their support is overwhelming.  The Mayor and Aldermen of the city of Balk took the opportunity to applaud to the participants. Today the heat was really on the numbers Xavie and Bart who are first and second. After 4 hours

paddling they misinterpreted a route sign and got 9 km (4.8 mile) off track. Erwin Janssen chooses the right track 7 minutes later and takes over pole position. Erwin wins the 2nd day in less then 6 hours. A real die-hard today was Esther from team The Wahinis battled for more then 9 hours and reached the finish in time. The Red Bull party Hummer and Corona were present again to take care for a good atmosphere. Annamarie Thomas, professional Dutch ice skater, willDay1__040
participate coming Sunday. She will
paddle the last day of the event.

The family-friendly event is open to the public. “One of our original goals at YOLO was to give back to the local community and expand the presence of SUP both locally and nationally,” explains Jeff Archer, co-founder of YOLO Board LLC. “The inception of the YOLO Board Seaside Celebration has allowed us to do just that. We’re really excited about the expansion of the race portion of the event this year to include both elite and recreational divisions, attracting higher profile

Noted Big Wave Surfer and All-Around Waterman Patterson (www.chuckpattersonsports.com) will host a special pre-race clinic on September 17th. Patterson has competed professionally in tow surfing, SUP, surfing, kiteboarding, skiing and snowboarding. “I can't wait to head out to the Gulf Coast for the Seaside Celebration festivities,” adds Gregg. “I'm honored to be invited to introduce my Stand Up Paddle Boot Camp to Florida and spread my passion of fitness and SUP. It's going to be fun!" The celebration highlights Seaside and the surrounding South Walton community as a premier destination for SUP with both the Gulf of Mexico and the rare coastal dune lakes serving as backdrops for scheduled activities. The Cottage Rental Agency (www.cottagerentalagency.com) is offering special packages for paddlers and event guests ranging anywhere from $59 per night for a group home to $175 per night for a private cottage. It is truly a special event and we’re looking forward to September.”

GARRETT MCNAMARA PADDLES FOR AUTISTIC CHILDREN Print E-mail
Written by Fox Lach
Thursday, 12 August 2010 22:35

On August 13th, big wave surf Champion, Garrett McNamara will stand up paddle a 28 mile route circling New York City, in the SEA Paddle NYC. Paddle boarders are flocking to the Big Apple for this event, to take a stand for Autism.

The Hudson River is sure to offer many challenges to paddle boarders. But McNamara having done some of the most death defying surfing in history, will likely be unhindered. McNamara has made a name for himself as one of the world’s most extreme surfers. He has tow-surfed waves created from a 300 foot tall decaying glacier. Every year he sets out to surf the biggest waves, but this isn't about the thrill. It's about helping others.

McNamara is anxious for the chance to participate in such an arduous event, so that he can raise awareness and funding for Surfer's Healing. “Every stroke I take; will be for Surfers’ Healing and all the children they support,” McNamara proclaims.

Surfers' Healing (http://www.surfershealing.org/ ), is an organization that hosts special day camps for autistic children. The program's specially trained coaches, such as McNamara, take autistic children surfing, which provides a unique therapy for those affected with Autism. Sometimes this is the first time a parent gets the opportunity to see their child show any emotion, or even speak. McNamara expresses that “riding a fifty-foot wave is intense, but few things in my life match the feeling I get when I see these children surfing.” You can help support Surfer's Healing by donating at http://seapaddlenyc.dojiggy.com/gmachawaii. Donations will be accepted until August 13th.

SUP 11-city TOUR 2010 Print E-mail

As a sport and SUP enthusiast I brought SUP back to Holland (where I am born) in 2008. To promote the sport and give myself a challenge, I paddled the 11-City Tour in Friesland (the northern province of Holland) in 5 days. The 11-City Tour is a 220kilometer (136miles) long tour, originally and first performed by ice-skaters 101 years ago. My personal ultimate frysland
challenge has now grown into an International SUP event: The SUP 11-City Tour. www.supholland.com

1 - 5 September 2010 it is happening! Over 100 National and International athletes will start the Tour. Our main goal is to share SUP as a healthy outdoor sport with many. To stimulate children in sport and exercise, we invite school children to be part of SUP clinics during the event. We also support the good cause “Right to Play” www.righttoplay.com who improves the lives of children in some of the most disadvantaged areas of the world by using the power of sport and play for development, health and peace. You can also support this cause. Check on our site how: www.supholland.com

Celebrity Stage
To increase donations on behalf of “Right to Play” and to create attention for SUP, we introduce the Celebrity Stage. On our website you can see which celebrities take part in this.

Be part of the SUP 11-City Tour!

You can enter as ‘solo participant’ – you can choose to compete or to do the tour (cruise).
You can also participate in a team. A team has 2-5 team members. Each team member will paddle the entire day (switching during the day is not allowed).
You can find information about the route, rules, fee’s and the option to book accommodation on our website.

Party
The SUP 11-City Tour is not only an intense sporting event. It is also a festival with an atmosphere known in the “11-City scene”. The checkpoints in the famous 11 Cities and the finish provide a great platform for people to get together, be part of the happening and encourage the participants while the Red Bull Hummer provides music and good vibes. At the finish there’s a ‘tent village’, where SUP brands present themselves by organizing clinics. After daily prize giving ceremonies, Corona will entertain you during their after parties in a local Frisian pub.
